For all you South Side lovers out there, we've got For all you South Side lovers out there, we've got a special treat for you this Friday! It's hard to imagine making the original any better, but we gave it our best shot by adding loads of real tangerine and orange peel. The resulting beer is incredibly drinkable, with a lush and juicy citrus character that's perfect for a sunny summer weekend (or weekday 🙂 Get this one for a limited time in our taproom, or look for it on shelves at your favorite local retailer!
Our Blue Corn Lager is set for release this Friday Our Blue Corn Lager is set for release this Friday! (And that means the coveted Blue Corn Lager Con Chiles isn't too far away as well)

It seems natural for Iowa-based Confluence to offer a corn-based brew. But while Iowa corn makes great bourbon, it’s not so good for beer. So we use open-pollinated, heritage organic blue corn grown in New Mexico. First we perform a cereal mash by boiling the milled blue corn to expose the starches. The resulting purple porridge is then mashed conventionally with barley malt causing the color to magically disappear and creating a super sweet, almost clear wort. The entire wort is boiled and we add enough Saaz hops for bittering without overwhelming the blue corn flavor. It’s then fermented with German lager yeast and lagered as normal. The resulting beer is refreshing on warm days, yet big for its style and with higher alcohol content than the classic American pilsner.

Taproom release on Friday, or get it at your favorite liquor store beginning next week!
Available in the taproom today, and at Cajun Fest Available in the taproom today, and at Cajun Fest tomorrow!

Several years ago, a group of Iowa natives and Louisiana transplants hosted Des Moines' first annual Cajun Fest, bringing people together to enjoy authentic food and lively music. The festival has raised thousands of dollars for youth focused charities in our community, so when the organizers of the Fest reached out to see if we wanted to brew a beer for the event, we were stoked!
We figured a traditional German-style Festbier made a lot of sense- after all, it was designed to be paired with good food, dancing, carousing, and music during the weeks of Oktoberfest. It's perfect for washing down some crawfish, gumbo, andouille, or even beignets- so grab a Refresh, check out cajunfestiowa.com and let the good times roll!
Bready malts pair with light toastiness and floral hops for a balanced beer that finishes clean and crisp. (And no, it's not spicy, nor does it have crawfish in it 🙂
Taproom release on Friday, or get it at Cajun Fest on Saturday!
